How we treat your clipboard
CliperX is a clipboard manager. Clipboard content may include text, links, images, file references, rich text, code, colors, source app information, and preview metadata. We treat this as private user data and design CliperX around local storage, user control, and minimal network access.
Information CliperX handles
- Clipboard history: when you enable or use CliperX, the app reads clipboard content or content you explicitly import so it can create history items, previews, search results, and reusable clips.
- Source and preview data: CliperX may store source app icons, URL titles, favicons, file metadata, and thumbnails to help you recognize saved content.
- Settings and state: this includes retention limits, history limits, groups, favorites, interface preferences, blocked private apps, screen-sharing visibility, iCloud sync state, and extension unlock state.
- Purchase state: payments, subscriptions, restores, and refunds are handled by Apple StoreKit. CliperX also uses RevenueCat to mirror purchase status and provide aggregate purchase analytics. RevenueCat may receive purchase and subscription history, transaction or receipt information, a randomly generated anonymous App User ID, and limited device or app technical information. CliperX and RevenueCat do not receive your payment card information from Apple.
macOS and iOS differences
The macOS version can monitor the system clipboard in the background and save history according to your settings. Because of iOS system limits, CliperX does not continuously monitor every clipboard change in the background on iOS. On iOS, content is usually processed only when you open the app, return it to the foreground, use the CliperX keyboard, save through the share extension, or take another explicit action.
Storage and sync
- Local storage: history, previews, and settings are stored in the app data container on your device. On macOS, local clipboard content is encrypted at rest and the local key is managed through Keychain.
- iCloud sync: when you enable iCloud sync, CliperX uses your Apple ID private CloudKit database to sync history, groups, settings, and required payload data. CliperX does not operate independent servers to receive or store your clipboard content.
- App Group: on iOS, the main app, keyboard extension, and share extension may use Apple App Group storage to share required caches, entitlement state, and pending content on the device.
- Backup exports: if you choose to export a backup, the exported file may contain clipboard content in readable form. Store and share backups only in places you trust.
Network access
CliperX does not use advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs. To generate URL previews, the app may contact the target website or favicon services to fetch page titles, icons, or related metadata. When iCloud sync is enabled, the app communicates with Apple CloudKit. Purchases and restores communicate with Apple StoreKit, and purchase status is mirrored to RevenueCat for purchase-state support and aggregate purchase analytics. Clipboard content is not sent to RevenueCat.
Purchase data and RevenueCat
- Purpose: RevenueCat helps CliperX validate and mirror purchase state, troubleshoot purchase access, prevent purchase abuse, and understand aggregate purchase performance. Apple StoreKit transaction verification remains the authority that grants access inside CliperX.
- Data: the RevenueCat service may process product identifiers, purchase and subscription status or history, transaction or receipt data, renewal or expiration state, an anonymous RevenueCat App User ID, and limited device or app technical information needed to operate the service.
- Identity and tracking: CliperX does not provide RevenueCat with your name, email address, advertising identifier, clipboard content, or a CliperX account identifier. We do not use RevenueCat for advertising or tracking you across apps or websites.
- Provider policy: RevenueCat processes this data as a third-party service provider. For more information, see the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your clipboard data.
- We do not collect usage behavior for advertising or cross-app tracking.
- We do not require a CliperX account for core features.
- We do not upload clipboard content to CliperX-owned servers.
- We do not send clipboard content to RevenueCat.
Retention and deletion
- Local history and previews remain on your device until you delete them, your retention settings remove them, you erase the app's data, or you uninstall the app. Backup files remain wherever you save them until you delete them.
- When iCloud sync is enabled, synchronized data remains in your private CloudKit database until it is deleted through CliperX or you remove the app's iCloud data using Apple's controls. Turning off sync by itself may not delete data already stored in iCloud.
- RevenueCat may retain purchase records for as long as reasonably necessary to provide purchase-state support and analytics, prevent fraud, comply with legal obligations, and maintain transaction records. You may request deletion as described below.
Your choices
- You can clear history, delete individual items, and adjust history limits and retention duration.
- You can turn off iCloud sync or manage iCloud permissions in Apple system settings.
- You can configure blocked private apps so CliperX skips clipboard content produced by those apps.
- You can control whether the CliperX window is visible during screen sharing.
- On supported iOS devices, you can enable Face ID or device authentication to protect history display.
To request deletion of purchase-related data processed through RevenueCat, contact feedback@cliperxapp.com. We may ask for information reasonably needed to locate the anonymous purchase record. Deleting data held through RevenueCat does not cancel, refund, or change an Apple purchase or subscription; those actions are managed through Apple.
Updates and contact
We may update this policy as the product, platform requirements, or legal requirements change. For material changes, we will try to provide notice through the app or website.
